


Peter Williams is a chartered accountant with extensive professional and commercial experience. He has broad experience as managing director and chairman of public companies.
Peter was a partner of Deloitte for 17 years and partner in charge of the South Australian practice from 1987 to 1991. He joined the Lloyd Helicopter group as managing director in 1991 and from 1993-1998 was managing director of Enterprise Solutions Asia Pacific Limited.
Since then he has acted as a non-executive director with venture capital companies (Momentum Ventures Limited and Playford Capital Pty Ltd) and is Chairman of Agrilink Holdings Pty Ltd and Hardy Milazzo.
He conducts a consultancy practice from the Deloitte offices, is involved with several private companies and was chairman of TEC 29 from 1999 to 2002.
Peter is a member of Marathon's Audit Committee.
Denis Wood was appointed a non-executive director of Marathon on 29 November 2006. On 1 November 2007, he was appointed director in charge of the Mt Gee Uranium Project.
Denis is currently a director of Queensland Coke and Energy. Prior to assuming that role, he was responsible for the successful development and operation of the Coppabella Coal Project in Queensland as managing director of Australian Premium Coal.
Denis is also Director - Resource Development of Talbot Group Holdings, a Queensland-owned and operated investment group focusing on the resource sector with an asset base in excess of $450 million. Its activities include minerals exploration, mine and market development and financial investments as well as a substantial property and share portfolio.
He is a graduate of Macquarie University BSc (Geology) and holds a Metallurgy Certificate from the Department of Technical Education. He has over 37 years of experience in the steel and coal industry and his experience includes steel production, coal preparation, marketing, business development and new mine development.
Denis began his career with BHP Newcastle steelworks in 1969 and remained until 1982, gaining knowledge of the primary processes involved in steel making whilst also involved with coal exploration programmes in New South Wales and Queensland. He has also worked as managing director of Carbon Consulting International, responsible for creating laboratories in Mackay and Gladstone, and in establishing the Brisbane head office, controlling management and accounting practices.
He has also served as a director for a number of coal-based consultancies and has worked in an international role for SGS's worldwide coal business, in particular concerning North America and South Africa.
Chen Zeng was appointed a non-executive director of Marathon on 26 December 2006.
Chen has been the managing director of CITIC Australia since November 2002. The company is the Australian arm of China's giant state-owned CITIC Group, which has assets of over US$100 billion and investments in banking, financial, energy and raw materials businesses.
Chen joined the group in 1989 and transferred to Australia in 1994. He has over 17 years experience managing various business operations, business and asset restructures, and has developed a number of projects for the CITIC and CITIC Australia groups.
He is also an executive director of the Hong Kong-listed CITIC Resources Holdings Ltd. Chen holds a Master's Degree in International Finance from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.
China is likely to be the primary market for Australian uranium in coming years and Chen's knowledge and access will be an excellent resource for Marathon.
The Honourable Chris Schacht was appointed a non-executive director of Marathon on 24 January 2008.
One of Australia’s most highly respected political minds with vast international Government experience, Chris served in the Senate of Federal Parliament for 15 years until 2002.
During his time as a Minister from 1993 to 1996, he held the portfolios at various times of Science, Small Business, Customs and Construction. As Minister, he was responsible for the Patents Office, Commonwealth Research Centres, Standards, Space Industry, Shipbuilding and Business Franchising.
Prior to being appointed as Minister, Chris was an active member of many Senate and Party policy committees covering Economics, Industry Development, Science, Communications, Foreign Affairs, Defence, Trade, Human Rights and Transport.
He also worked as a ministerial advisor to the South Australian State Government from 1970 to 1973 and Federal Government from 1973 to 1975 in the portfolio areas of Agriculture, Fisheries, Land Management, Forestry, Defence Supply, Veterans, Telecommunications and Postal.
Chris is also the President of the Australian Volleyball Federation and in October 2006 was elected to the Legal Commission of the FIVB (Federation Internationale de Volleyball) for a four-year term.
Dr John Linley was appointed a non-executive director of Marathon on 30 June 2008.
His extensive corporate and resources industry expertise includes the post of chief executive at Sun Metals Corporation in Townsville, Queensland, where he led the development of the world's most efficient and environmentally sensitive zinc refinery located on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef.
Dr Linley has also served as vice president of TexasGulf Australia, director of the Centre for Strategic Industrial and Resource Development in Brisbane, and with Fluor Engineers and Constructions, where he was involved in the Olympic Dam project.
He is a geologist by training and gained his PhD from the University of Adelaide.
Ian McRae joined Marathon on 22 January 2008, with overall responsibility for the conduct and completion of feasibility studies concerning the Mt Gee deposit for the development of the project to mine status.
Ian’s extensive capabilities and industry experience are complemented with effective communication skills and strong background in operations and infrastructure management.
He joins Marathon after an extensive career in the mining industry, firstly in mining operations management and then in executive roles in project development funding and technical services. In the 1980s and 1990s he was Manager of Operations for Peko Mines at Tennant Creek, General Manager Operations for the Pilbara operations of Robe River Mining Company, and General Manager Operations for Cumnock Coal Ltd between 1994 and 1997.
Ian also served as Senior Site Executive for Macarthur Coal Limited at its Coppabella project and for Macmahon Contractors Pty Ltd at the Englefield coal mine.
Belinda Hill is an experienced communications manager with a proven history of delivery in both agency and in-house roles.
Belinda established herself as a communications specialist in the United Kingdom. Prior to joining Marathon in February 2007, Belinda spent four years in the British nuclear industry as the Group Corporate Communications Manager for British Nuclear Fuels plc (BNFL), gaining considerable knowledge of the nuclear energy industry.
This experience in communications has been supplemented with previous roles at global public relations and communications company Weber Shandwick Worldwide and at UK-based financial communications consultancy Binns & Co., both in London.
With a strong background in investor relations, media relations and crisis management, Belinda is well positioned to facilitate Marathon's communications with corporate sponsors, media and external advocates.
Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Business Communications at Queensland University of Technology and appointment as a registered SFA securities representative in London.
